Pink Ribbon of the Month, October: Philly Pretzel Factory

It may seem a little corny to say our October Pink Ribbon honoree is all tied up in the Komen Promise to end breast cancer forever... but we think this is the most appropriate way to describe the utter devotion and let's-do-more attitude of Philly Pretzel Factory!

That's because once the team got their feet wet with their first fundraiser, like the pretzel dough they craft every day, their activities, fundraising - and impact - for the cause kept rising and rising! Plus, more and more people got 'tied up' with them... from store owners and staff, to customers.

Philly Pretzel Factory's activism in the breast cancer movement offers a lesson for us all, demonstrating how, with a little creativity and a lot of passion, the things we do every day can grow into a very powerful manifestation of the Komen Promise.

Last October, what started our to be a simple $1 per pretzel fundraiser turned into an incredible fundraising and awareness-raising campaign.  In addition to the $1 ribbon-shaped pretzels sold throughout October, the 100 participating Philly Pretzel Factory locations also sold paper in memory/in honor of ribbons to raise money, and offered customers breast health literature. Select stores also set up stations with Komen Philadelphia Affiliate representatives, opening even more doors for us to educate, motivate and empower multiple generations in various neighborhoods to fight back against breast cancer.

For their October 2009 campaign, Philly Pretzel Factory presented The Affiliate with an impressive check for $11,541. But, that's not all! In February at our Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure Kick-Off Party, they surprised us with another huge check for their 2010 compaign... amounting to $20,000!

"When I asked how they generated such impressiveresults, Philly Pretzel Factory told us it was a true team effort among their store owners, managers and employees... they invested energy and heart non-stop!" said Elaine I. Grobman, Executive Director of the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate. "That is true dedication, and a very inspiring demonstration of what it means to be fully passionate about the quest to end breast cancer. We are incredibly fortunate and grateful to have the support of the Philly Pretzel Factory team as we continue ahead on this journey."

This October 1-31, in celebration of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Philly Pretzel Factory is aiming even higher with their 'Twisting 4 A Cause' campaign, hoping to surpass their 2010 fundraising by 100% and raise close to $40,000. With their passion and energy, we are as confident in their success as we are in one day soon living in a world without breast cancer!
