Pink Ribbon of the Month, January: Komen Philadelphia Board of Directors

This month, we are happy to award our Pink Ribbon to a group of fourteen "keepers of the Komen Promise" who have taken it upon themselves to be the guardians of each and every breast cancer activist in our service area... and beyond.

Our Board of Directors guide communities in 13 counties served by The Affiliate
This very special family of men and women - our January Pink Ribbon of the Month recipients - is the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

More accurately, we should, and henceforth will, refer to them as YOUR Board of Directors, for in every act they take, they do so with each and every one of you in their hearts, as well as with their eye on the futures of your children and grandchildren.  Acting behind the scenes most of the time, your Board quietly goes about their responsibilities to communities in thirteen counties without the slightest desire or need for fanfare, appreciation or reward - beyond that of knowing they are helping change the face of breast cancer.

But, this month, we proudly bring them into the spotlight to show our thanks and to inspire you with awareness of the caring, passionate group supporting you.

These fourteen are: Joanne Calabria (President), Lisa Wollan (Vice President), Ron Morris, CPA (Treasurer), Barbara Orr (Secretary), Frank Becker, Ellen Cavanaugh, Rabbi Jerome David, Tangee Gibson, Judy Kellem, Sue Schick, Sloane Six, Lawrence Smith, Fred Stein and Meryl Weinreb.

Year-round they dedicate immeasurable amounts of time, as well as professional and personal resources to support every Komen Philadelphia initiative - from serving as Pink Tie Ball Co-Chair, to attending P.I.N. Stripes events, to helping secure sponsorships and in-kind contributions that help assure every possible dollar of our fundraising is available to advance The Affiliate mission.

The Board is highly involved in uniting thousands in the breast cancer movement
And, to THAT end, your Board is extremely knowledgeable, loyal and focused - giving you the confidence that your donations, as well as support and fundraising you work so hard to generate, are being put to the best possible use to enrich lives, SAVE lives and establish the foundations of a future free from the threat of breast cancer. This is why we consider your Board to be guardians of each activist, as well as our breast cancer movement as a whole. They are truly watching over our activities and assuring we remain on a path that leads to the cures!

Whether they are helping to structure new community profile assessments, reviewing breast health policy, looking at stronger strategies to build our sponsorship and volunteer base, or any other number of responsibilities, your Board has taken on a full-time job... and this is outside of the full-time jobs they have as professionals in a variety of industries. And, again, although you may not always see them 'in the spotlight', not one Affiliate event goes by, or initiative gets implemented, without your Board contributing personally, professionally and with a devotion that in every way upholds the integrity of the name Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

And so, to the Komen Philadelphia Board of Directors, we award our Pink Ribbon of the Month, and extend our sincerest thanks for their passion and compassion... hard work and strong conviction in the Komen Promise.
