Philadelphia School Students Raise Over $40,000

THANK YOU PHILADELPHIA SCHOOLS FOR RAISING $40,580 !!

The Komen Philadelphia Affiliate, Philadelphia School District and Dietz & Watson Team Up for 4-week fundraising and educational initiative... with extraordinary results!

The Komen Philadelphia Affiliate thanks The School District of Philadelphia - every student, family member, teacher, staff member and volunteer - who teamed up to make our first-ever district-wide educational and fundraising program an incredible success... raising $40,580 to empower the Komen Promise here in our community!

We were proud to celebrate seven top fundraising schools during a special Dietz & Watson, Grillebration celebration at the School District Administrative offices on November 22. Approximately 350 students and staff gathered to stand up and take pride in their fundraising and awareness achievements, and were treated to Dietz & Watson hot dogs, grilled up by Dietz & Watson AND a celebrity griller -  Dr. Leroy Nunery, CEO and Superintendent  of the District (pictured below with Momma Dietz & Elaine Grobman)!

"Every so often, we talk about a movement... a focused activism... a new approach that revolutionizes the face of breast cancer and provides a huge leap

ahead in ending this disease forever," said Elaine I. Grobman, CEO of the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate. "From beginning to end, the 2011 Philadelphia School District Pretty In Pig Fundraising Campaign proved to be all those things making it, indeed, revolutionary. We owe it all to the dedication, creativity, hard work, leadership and belief in our mission exhibit by everyone involved, from the students and faculty in the schools, to the parents supporting them at home. With this program, together we planted roots of change in our community in the form of: children embracing the
opportunity to talk about breast cancer in their lives and help make a difference... connections between teachers and children, children and parents, parents and teachers and faculty and staff... and a union among all of them that makes breast cancer not one person's, nor one generation's fight, but instead a shared battle, hope and victory."
