Affiliate Receives Two Community Honors

Komen Philadelphia Affiliate Receives Special Honors from Community Friends

This fall, the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure will proudly receive honors from two distinguish members of our community, the Association of Fundraising Professionals and BEBASHI - Transition to Hope, long-time Komen Philadelphia Affiliate grantee.

On November 9, The Affiliate will receive the 2011 Outstanding Foundation of the Year award from the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP-GPC). The award will be presented during the organization's National Philanthropy Day celebration, which recognizes non-profit organizations and institutions that enrich the region, and honors the extraordinary people in our community who exemplify the very best in philanthropy. The Affiliate thanks Abington Health for nominating us for this prestigious honor.

In addition, on November 3 at their Pink Playground fundraising event, Bebashi will present The Affiliate with their Advocates' Award.  In doing so, Bebashi recognizes the progress our two organizations have made together in bridging the breast health information and services gap between life-saving breast cancer resources and medically underserved women of color in the metropolitan Philadelphia area. The main conduit of these achievements is Bebashi's program "Our Bodies", supported by The Affiliate through our Community Grants Program.

"We are certainly appreciative to the leaders of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and Bebashi for bestowing the cherished honors upon us; it is incredibly humbling for the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate to be recognized by two organizations with such great integrity and deep-rooted commitment to bettering our community," said Elaine I. Grobman, Executive Director of the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate.

"We also thank fully and sincerely, every member of the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate family - from staff to volunteers, sponsors to fundraisers - for their advocacy for our mission and the loyal support that drives every step we take in our quest for the cures. We share these honors with all of them in appreciation for all they do to empower us... so that we can, in turn, can empower all generations in the fight against breast cancer."
