2010 Parade of Pink
Over 6,000 members strong, our breast cancer survivor family participating in the Parade of Pink is a moment of pride for millions of loved ones watching in person and on TV.
To commemorate the historic 20th anniversary of the Race, the Philadelphia Police Honor Guard adds a special element of distinction to the pre-parade atmosphere.
We parade in victory over breast cancer.
We march as a united family who looked breast cancer in the eye and won the battle.
We take stride-by-stride with pride in our strength to beat a relentless disease.
We walk in memory of those who valiantly fought but lost their battle - their spirit lives on in us who will fight until we make survivors of everyone diagnosed with breast cancer.
We descend the step with ascending spirit - knowing one day soon we will cross the Race for the Cure finish line… into a world without breast cancer.
Members of the Temple University Diamond Marching Band keep everyone in the celebratory beat of the milestone event.
At the first Race in 1991, there was no Parade of Pink and just a handful of survivors. In 2010 thousands celebrate how far we’ve come in empowering a tremendous survivor family.
Among all the Pink of the Parade, there is always room for a little green - when delivered in the form of the fur and fun of the Phillie Phanatic.
Expressions of personal beliefs and words of empowerment make each Parade special for survivors and loved ones waiting to embrace them at the bottom of the Art Museum steps.
One last moment of serenity before the first steps are taken and cheers, music and “high fives” erupt in celebration of survival.
Despite chilly winds, the energy, courage and hope radiating from thousands of survivors warm the hearts of everyone.
Cheering came from all angles… from survivors at the top, to family down below, to dignitaries on the stage and sponsors along Eakins Oval, to loved ones watching at home.
Each year the cherished Survivor Photo becomes more and more of a challenge as - happily - the numbers continue to grow.
Members of the “Cherished Co-Chairs” living timeline gladly allow themselves to be enveloped in the sea of pink flowing down the steps of the Art Museum.
The traditional banner says it all, no more words are needed: SURVIVORS 2010.
